“What's new is old, and what's old is new."

"What's new is old, and what's old is new." — Anthony Casalena, Circle Day 2026

I've spent the past few years processing what happens at the end of an era.

How do you deal with the loss? How do you reconcile the change? And what survives into whatever comes next?

Every major shift requires letting go, and the hard part is that it's always something we previously needed to survive.

Starting with the good ole umbilical cord and cozy womb.

Being expelled, or taken out, comes with a good cry too.

To me, this is the primary lesson of life.

And one worth learning, practicing and mastering — so that when the reconciliation is complete, there's something left behind that can help someone else make the journey too.

It's how I think about product cycles. Market cycles. Really, every cycle.

And it's why I'm excited about Squarespace Forma.

Founder DNA matters just as much at the end of a product lifecycle as it does in the beginning.

For Squarespace, that DNA has been a clean merger of good design and good engineering, with the guardrails to make sure both function as expected, at scale.

And coming from Anthony, it sounds like this new product carries the same essence that helped Squarespace bloom and survive the previous eras.

The way this 2010 version of sqspthemes.com is hacked together right now — with Squarespace CMS handling the backend and GitHub and Cloudflare handling the front end — is exactly the kind of thing Forma would make seamless.

And it could enable a lot of the bigger projects you can find through BiggerBudgetProjects.com.

So that's where I'm at.

But I'm curious what your reaction is.

Does it energize you to know, or not know what's on the horizon, or does it leave you feeling displaced?

Leave a comment below.

Whatever it is, I know the feels.

If you're working through a transition right now — where what used to work, or what was once effortless, seems like it's reached the end of its course — it's probably time to look deeper at what the change is signaling.

And if you need someone to do that with, I'm here.

Reach out and we can look at where the true value lies in your business, and what it takes to carry that value into a new era.
