What $5.4M+ in Bigger Budget Website Projects Actually Looks Like

When most web designers talk about “finding clients,” they mean:

  • Cold outreach

  • Posting online

  • Hoping someone stumbles onto their portfolio

Meanwhile, over the past 90 days, I sourced 92 public opportunities for website and digital work.

Based on published budgets and conservative working estimates, they represented at least:

$5.42 million USD
CAD $668,750

That’s nearly as many opportunities in 90 days as the 104 I reviewed over four to five months last year.

And they’re not looking for $2K websites.

The Median Working Budget Was $65K

Of the 72 priced USD website opportunities, the median working budget was $65K.

These are serious budgets from serious organizations:

  • Ohio Access to Justice Foundation — $45K–$65K

  • Southern Nevada Health District — $100K

  • Manatee County Convention and Visitors Bureau — $250K–$500K

Who’s Writing the Checks

The largest sectors in the database:

  • Government and public agencies (50%) — cities, counties, transit agencies, airports and public authorities

  • Nonprofits and associations (27%) — foundations, advocacy groups and professional associations

  • Healthcare and human services (12%) — health systems, public-health organizations and community-service providers

  • Education (11%) — universities, schools and educational institutions

These aren’t “who do you know?” markets.

They hire through professional procurement processes with a defined scope, deadline and contact information published in the RFP.

What’s Live Right Now

As of August 26, there are 26 open projects in the feed.

A few of them:

  • Idaho AEYC — $50K for content strategy, copywriting, UX and a complete website rebuild. The CMS is open to recommendation.

  • IEA Bioenergy — $50K to consolidate approximately 20 WordPress sites into one accessible website.

  • BEAM Circular — $60K–$85K EST for naming, brand identity, a new website and launch campaign. Its current organizational website is on Squarespace.

  • Meridian International Center — $150K–$250K EST for a comprehensive website rebuild with content migration and Salesforce integrations.

  • Boulder County — $125K–$175K per year EST to support 11 public WordPress sites and their AWS infrastructure.

The Bottom Line

You don’t need to reply to all 92.

You need one or two that fit your capabilities, experience and location.

At these budget levels, one right-fit project can materially change your year.

Even if you don’t pursue the projects open today, the feed shows you:

  • Who budgets at this level

  • What they expect the work to include

  • How to prepare before the next opportunity appears

If you want to see which projects are still open and decide where you have a real shot, this is where you start.

Figures cover opportunities added from May 29 through August 26. Totals use the low end of published budget ranges and conservative working estimates. Budgets marked EST are my own estimates. CAD has not been converted to USD, and three unpriced opportunities were excluded.
